Mouthwashing introduces players to a harrowing scenario aboard a doomed cargo spacecraft, where survival becomes a macabre struggle against dire circumstances. After a catastrophic crash that leaves the ship drifting in the vast emptiness of space, the crew is left to grapple with the reality of their situation. Leadership fails catastrophically when the captain, Kerli, decides that if he is to perish, his crew must share his fate. Rendered unable to end his own life properly, Kerli—now maimed and mute—faces the wrath and despair of the teammates he sentenced to a slow demise alongside him. As resources dwindle and hope fades, each crew member must confront the likelihood of their own death and the chilling possibilities of what might occur first: starvation, madness, or turning on one another in desperation.
As the ship’s life support systems begin their inevitable decline with only six months of functionality left, and provisions expected to run out much sooner, the crew must navigate the psychological and physical challenges of their environment. Communication was never their strong suit, and now, strained by isolation and the encroaching shadow of death, interactions become charged with intensity and paranoia. The game plunges players into an abyss of madness where the lines between reality and hallucination blur. Sounds and sights aboard the ship warp into horrifying visions, challenging players to distinguish between what is real and what is a product of fear.
