The Mines, the second level in DOORS 2, offers a significant shift in ambiance and challenge from its predecessor, The Hotel. This level can be accessed either directly after completing The Hotel or by joining a specialized elevator session in the Lobby. The setting of The Mines is reminiscent of an abandoned mining operation, complete with disarrayed rooms filled with mining equipment, scattered lockers, and old generators—all set against a backdrop of rock, steel, and wooden structures. This floor is designed to test players’ abilities to adapt to a harsher environment, marked by flooding and dim lighting, which significantly increases the difficulty of navigation.
Within The Mines, players are racing against time and are also forced to strategize against a variety of entities that populate this eerie floor. Each entity brings a unique challenge: the Guiding Light offers fleeting guidance amid the darkness, while Grumble hunts the player relentlessly. The introduction of Seek as a recurring antagonist adds a layer of intensity, with updated chase sequences that demand agile responses, particularly in the fraught encounter at Door 200. Players must also handle the nuanced behaviors of entities like the Gloombats, which aggressively target light sources, further complicating the task of moving through the dark, unpredictable corridors. Additionally, the presence of entities such as Hide, which morphs into a tangible threat in unexpected places, and Rush, which alters its attack patterns, ensures that players must remain vigilant and resourceful to navigate through the floor successfully.
